Is it illegal for bill collector's to threaten you to get what they want? Can a bill collector threaten your family if you do not pay on time or threaten you? Is this not against the law? It should be!

yes it is against the law if they threaten physical violence or harm against you or your family. try and record the conversation and turn it over to authorities. they can threaten lawsuits and legal civil retaliation but nobody is allowed to threated physical harm, whether you owe them money or not.

yes it is against the law. when they do that, tell them that the call has just been recorded and your that attorney will be in touch with them shortly. you'll never hear from them again. no one wants legal troubles.

Yes, it is illegal for anyone to threaten you in any way. Remind them how tough it is to squeeze blood from a stone. If your payment offers are refused as not good enough, they actually DO have to take it or leave it because you are still making an attempt to pay. Most collectors will tell you that a $20/month payment doesn't cover the cost of handling the case, but the reality is they have to take whatever deal you are willling to make! Don't let them bully you!
