Default debt with collection law firm?

I have read where people are harrased by collection agencies for debts as old as 5 years. I have a debt with a collection law firm. sent to them within the last two weeks. Will they take years to file anything against you or will they do it right after your 30 days notice is up from the first letter? What should I do about this:Write them a validation letter or a letter offering a payment?Should I call them or just keep everything in writing. What if I make a payment offer and they refuse?I made an offer monthly, to the collection agency, but they refused it and sent to a law firm. Can I call the original creditor and ask them to pull it back from collections and offer a settlement? I have been told that you can do this? For anyone that has went through this same situation, please let me know your experience.

Always contact them in writing - by certified mail and return receipt requested. There is a statute of limitations in most states.

They sound a little shady to me. Check them out here: http://www.budhibbs.com

You have some good facts there. What's the status of limitation in your state? A validation letter should be certified, return receipt requested. The important thing is you don't owe the collection agency, you owed your creditor. If you want more web pages, email me, I have a bunch of them. Went through this is 2000 and didn't pay a penny, but Bud Hibbs site has the best infor. Good luck and don't pay anything until you validate you owe THEM.
