Default How many times can a bill collector call in one day?

Aren't there laws on harassment? Are there limits on how many times a debt collector, or a bill collector, can call your residence in a day or a week? Is it State specific? (TX is what I'm curious about.) And, oh mighty answer-people, do you know where I might find a web linky to see the details myself?

you can ask them to not contact you by phone, but by mail only,...you can also change your phone number....but the easiest way to get them off your back is to work out a payment plan to repay the loan....most creditors are willing to work with you...at least make an effort....

Tell them to never call you again, and any further correspondence should be by mail or you will contact the phone company and your attorney.By law if you tell them never to call again they cannot legally call you.

Frequently with time gaps until a contact is made where they had to identify themselves. Some people consider the name on caller ID as a contact and disclosure of name of company but that has not been tested in court. Some companies call 10 times a day as long as contact is not made and they did not disclose to anyone who they are. Many will not take your HOME phone off their list until you request it in writing. If you change your number, they will do what is called a "skip trace" and search for your new number and find it one way or another.Know your rights, go to wikipedia and look up "FDCPA."Other than that, debt. collectors don't want to call you just as much as you don't want to be called. Set up some sorth of arrangements, even a long term arrangement wills top any further calls to you.

There is a simple form letter that you can send to bill collectors so they can only contact you in writing. The link I listed for Bud Hibbs has some good information on it, and there is a number where you can call in and ask questions about debt collection practices.Try the second link for the form letter I mentioned.Check out the third link for some standard rules that go along with debt collectors. # of calls per day, time, ect.
