Default Before you do anything, OPT OUT!

Please, if you are interested in fixing your own credit...remember step #1 is OPT OUT. This in theory will make it harder for some of your old baddies to verify your negative information and should also help the chance of items being removed being placed back on your credit reports. To opt out follow this link:

In theory it could help your score indirectly. It won't increase your score directly.

there's 2 option, to opt-out for 5 years electronically, or permanently. which should be chosen?

Five years is sufficient enough for what we are trying to accomplish here, but you can also do it permanently if you prefer.

Are there any negatives to opting out? My concern is, I just changed jobs, and my reliable, verifiable income has dropped dramatically. I'm not going to miss any offers that actually made be good, right?

You may miss some offers this way. But, if you really need a credit card or loan, the best offers will be the ones you research for when YOU are ready for them - not the ones that get mailed to you. Those mailings are usually set up to tempt you to make an impulse decision anyway. I'd stay away from them.

I can't stand the thought of the bastard credit bureaus profiting by selling my information either and I don't ever want lenders pulling my credit unless I ask for it to be pulled - whether it's a soft inquiry or not. But, that's just the way I look at it.
