Just sending a letter to all 3 bureaus requesting they remove all previous addresses and they will? What if they ask for a reason? Its not like the info is wrong...
Was just wondering the same thing

You don't have to give a reason. Just say you would like to dispute them or that they are incorrect...if you must give a reason. I'm not sure why so many people feel compelled to give a reason. It's the CRAs who must give the reason for reporting them on your credit report, if they can't prove that they belong there (which they can't) then by law they must remove them.

In most cases, when dealing with CRAs, the less said, the better.

Equifax and Trans Union will remove them without question. Experian might remove some, but they refuse to remove them if they are "connected to tradelines" which most of them are. Experian = bastards.

I was looking at some of these posts, they're obviously relatively old posts. Now you can dispute your credit report online at any of the Credit Monitoring websites.

One of the worst things you can do is dispute online.

I'm guessing that the worst way to dispute is online because the Credit Bureaus may not do what they're supposed to do? Or why is it bad to dispute it online?

The CRAs want you to dispute online. They have pre-written reasons for your dispute and they want you to chose one. Many times you don't want to give a reason, but online you have to. Plus they only list a hand few. Once they have you give that reason, they just have to verify that particular reason. It makes it much easier on them. If you don't give a reason, they have to work harder.

Online disputes are done much quicker and have a much lower success rate. Writing letters is almost always the way to go. You control how you dispute, what you dispute and why you dispute. Online, that control is taken away from you.

Chane, thanks for your response. I have been somewhat successful in the past doing it online. I have also helped a couple of other people to clear some things off of their credit reports as well.

It sounds like I could've gotten even more stuff taken off with writing letters I have to straighten out my credit reports again because I've been through a rough patch with this recession. I'm going to read some more posts to learn just how to do this. I'm sure I can find sample letters on here and everything. Thanks again for your help.

Oh and also like Alfie mentioned, when you do it in writing, you can keep a better paper trail in case you have to sue them. It's great for proof.
