There's so much information on these boards! I love it, but my head is about to explode! I've done my searching in FAQs, etc., but I haven't found an answer that fits. I'd love it if someone could either assist or direct me. I filed for bankruptcy, discharged October 2008. Now I'm focusing or cleaning up my report because I'd like to buy a house in the next six months. I know that the myFICO report is the real deal, so I recently pulled it. Most of my accounts are listed as IIB, but one is listed as a bad debt/collection, the other 120+ past due. Both have $0 balances. According to a Google search, since these companies can't come after me, would me disputing them to at least be considered IIB be of any benefit? |

Bankruptcy discharges the debt, so if the creditor has properly recorded $0 balance due on the account, then they are reporting consistent with the BK order. BK does not discharge the reporting of delinquencies that occurred on the account prior to the discharge. They occurred. As such, there is no requirement associated with BK that mandates deletion of prior, accurate reporting of derogatory items under account history. You would still have to either dispute the accuracy of the reportings themselves or ask the creditor for good-will deletion. Having been shafted on the debt, I would not expect a whole lot of good-will on their part. |
