Car after bankruptcy?

I am about to declare bankruptcy and was wondering if my father buys me a car can I have it registered in my name or will this mean that they can take the car of me. Would it be better to keep the car in my fathers name.If anybody could help I would be very grateful.

They cannot take it. WAIT till you recieve your discharge letter from the court

Also, make sure his gift to you is less than $12,000 in value and gifts for the year total.

I think it all depends on what you have at the time of the papers being signed.
