Default Cell phone after bankruptcy?

I know that there are some cell phone companies that check credit and some that don't. Can one still get a phone after they have a bankruptcy? Which companies require credit checks and which ones don't?

Perhaps pre paid. Not sure what kind you're looking for. If you mean one with a bill, it may be tough. But some companies will work with you because they want your business.

sprint/nextel has a cellular service where it has a preset spending limit and you pay that as your deposit. it is equal to having regular service but if you cross the 125.00? line off she goes!

I'm pretty sure all companies do credit checks, unless you get the prepaid phones. If you go on a plan they'll just make you put down a deposit.

You can always get a cell phone, the only difference will be how much of a deposit you will have to pay. This will vary between $50 and $1000 depending on what company it is that you use. You will always get your deposit back with one year of complete on time payments and you will get it back with interest. Sometimes it is even more interest than what you would get at a bank. If you are uncomfortable with paying a deposit you can always go pre-paid but they are often more expensive in the end than a contract plan.

TracFone is my fav cell phone. It's pre-paid, but I can keep better track that way.You can get one for under 20 dollars, at just about anywhere or you can get them online.

As far as I know, all the mobile companies will sell you a cell phone and a contract even if you have poor credit... but you most likely will have to pay a deposit in advance.

Default Not a true at all

After my bankruptcy was discharged my credit score went from 583 to 665 and i got cell phone with AT&T without a deposit! And I am not talking about a prepaid phone. So from my experience yes you CAN.

i would wait for 6 months , pull your credit make sure all accounts are discharged.... any chargeoffs or unpaid colllections showing you'll have a tough time ..

I think we waited awhile (and saved), this was years ago (6). But... we went through Sprint. It was a hefty deposit - like $150 per phone or something, but we did get it. I'm not sure how they look at credit, we just changed carriers and got Verizon with no problem, but we're in the 600 range now, but still have delinq. and inquiries/bk on record so I was worried, but no deposit was required and we were approved right away.

Other option is pre-paid as indicated. This original post is old I know, but it may help others now as well.
