Shouldn't you be digging yourself OUT of debt instead of trying to dig a deeper hole? Just saying.

Depends on your current job, salary and the lender, but bankruptcy remains on your report for a long time.

It will be hard. Most apartment/house rental will do a credit check on applicants. Same with buying a house. It would be smarter and easier to buy a house after filing bankruptcy if you have some cash in hand. You can seek homes for sale with owner financing or rent with option to buy. Buying is bettter for your credit and helps you at the end of the year as the interest paid on mortgage is taken off your income for a tax credit. Rent or Lease with option to buy would be better because you can make a deal with the owner that you will rent for 1 year and then buy. This gives you one year to prove to the owner that you are responsible by making your rent current every month.

Nothing is truly impossible. You are still able to get an apartment with a bankruptcy. The obvious is you would need to get a landlord who does not perform credit checks. If you go with a traditional landlord who performs a credit check, they may require rent payments in advance up to one year.
