Yes, filing for bankruptcy costs an arm and a leg, but the payments are made according to your Monthly Distributable Income (Net Income - Monthly Expenses). They calculate an average monthly income for you and your spouse if applicable and estimate the amount you spend on monthly expenses (such as rent/mortgage, car payments, food, car maintenance, alimony/child support, clothes..every possible expense that you have). Then the remaining will be paid every month for about five years to pay off your creditors. The only fees the attorney takes are the inital fees (attorney fees and filing fees goes to the court).
