Default Do you have to be a member of a credit union?

Do you have to be a member of a credit union to get auto loans from there? Do any accept loans from non-members?

Yes you have to be a member. Today, that shouldn't be a problem.

It depends on the credit union. They were recently deregulated, allowing them to take new members that weren't part of their industry (IE, you can join the glassmakers credit union now without being part of the glassmaking industry). So check with yours to be sure --- their rates are generally better than a commercial banks, HOWEVER, they have more stringent credit score guidelines on who they will lend to.

Shouldn't be a problem - most car dealerships do lending through local credit unions and you are not required to be a member to get the loan.
