Thanks so much! After reading through this site I did opt out, although I may have done it years ago. Still I went to the website and opted out just in case. I didn't realize about the address thing, so I sent those letters off just now! I also requested that inaccurate personal info be deleted and unauthorized inquiries.
The problem that I realized is that I disputed information with the CRA and they supposedly verified the information and suggested I contact the CA. That's when I sent validation letters to the CAs.
I'm nervous about calling old CAs, I've had the worst experience with them and I tend to get upset. But it definitely isn't as daunting now that I know I have rights and I think I'll be able to stay calm. (I've gotten of the phone with a CA with my hands trembling and my heart racing, b/c they're absolutely horrible and threatening all kinds of things that I know they can't do now)
I'll work on paying down my current debt, too.
