Welcome to the forums. You can probably save money on gas by riding the bus! A lot of transit systems have what is called a park and ride, where you can drive to the bus or train stop and use that ride to get to work or wherever you need to go. Typically a monthly bus pass will run around 50 to 60 dollars. There are actually a few ways you can fill up to get a bigger bang for your buck, ie fill up in the morning when it's cold, fill up slowly, don't fill up when a truck is filling up the pumps etc. Maybe you can find a second job or donate plasma. If you donate enough, you can fill up your tank every week. As far as your monthly car payments, couldn't you get a credit card to pay it? I'm not sure what your score would have to be for an unsecured card and I know it sounds like you could end up paying a lot more than 16 K in the long run, but what is more important to you? Your car or your credit score?
