What is Credit Counseling?
Consumer credit counseling services negotiate lower payments with your creditors (typically credit-card companies) and then make payments to them using a check or electronic funds transfer sent to them by the consumer every month. The credit counseling services are then paid a portion of the amount they retrieve from your creditors. This has led many to believe that credit counselors are just a tool of the lending industry.
It's not true in all cases, but most credit counseling services can be really bad for your credit scores. It largely depends on how your lenders report your account to the credit bureaus.

How We Got In Debt
As a realtor my income always fluctuated. Sure, I would have a few months with little if any pay, but it seemed that my next paycheck was just around the corner as soon as I wrapped up the next sale.
